Barbican Estatewide News Bulletin - 26 April 2019

Pretty much every week, Nabeela Ahmad of the estate office puts together a newsletter. I have tried to keep up with these and post individual items from Nabeela's newsletter to this blog, but there is so much in each newsletter I find it hard to keep up ... I'm not a pro like Nabeela!  I have suggested a number of times that the BEO should run a blog like this one, but there is resistance to that idea, so plan C is for me to just post a version of Nabeela's newsletter here as a single post as soon as I see it.

Barbican Repairs and Ongoing Work
Cold Water Storage Tank Project

The start of the Cold-Water Storage Tank Project, on Cromwell Tower will be delayed till June. Further details will be supplied nearer the start of the works.
There will be no change to the programme for works to Lauderdale Tower and Ben Jonson House.

Reminder: Scheduled Resurfacing Work on Wood Street and London Wall 25 - 29 April

The City of London Corporation's contractor, JB Riney, will carry out resurfacing and carriageway work from 7pm on Thursday 25 April to 8pm on Monday 29 April. This work will require the closure at the junction of Wood Street and London Wall from 7pm on 25 April to 5am on Tuesday 30 April.

Real World Reminders
Possible Intruders in the Private Gardens: Who to Contact

If you see someone in the private gardens who you don't think is a resident, please call your local Car Park Concierge or the Barbican Estate Office on 020 7029 3958 who will investigate. Alternatively, you could contact the Police on either 101 or 0207 601 2222 (24 hours).


Parcel Room & Perishable Items
To help with the ever-increasing demands on our Parcel Rooms, would you please, wherever possible collect your parcel on the day of delivery. Deliveries should not be stored in the Concierge's Parcel Rooms as they do not have facilities to store perishable items.

In addition to this could you please have the following items delivered when you are home to receive them:

• Household Furniture
• Large Appliances
• Flat Pack Furniture
• Oversize Boxes
• Large consignments of Beers, Wines and Spirits.

These good neighbourly acts will ensure that all the residents will get a good and fair use of the Parcel acceptance service at the Barbican Estate.

Please be informed that the standard response times for a reply to a written correspondence including emails is 10 working days.

Barbican Estate Office Repairs Service Desk times are 8.30am to 5pm and for actual response times for repairs, please check the website.


Activities and Workshops
Blood and Transplant Outreach Session 30 AprilThe NHS Blood and Transplant service will visit The Barbican Library to register new donors and offer a quick test to find your blood type.

Barbican Art Society - Summer term 2019 10-week painting and drawing courses start on the following dates:

• Monday afternoons: 2.00p.m - 5.00p.m. 13th May to 15th July
• Wednesday evenings: 7.15p.m - 9.15p.m. 24th April to 26th June
• Thursday evenings: 6.30p.m - 9.30p.m. 9th May to 11th July
• Friday evenings: 6.30p.m - 9.30p.m. 3rd May to 5th July

Location: The art room below Podium level Andrewes House, adjacent to the Children's Playgroup.
All levels of artist welcome. Fees: £105 per course, payable in advance.

Digital Support in the City
Tuesdays 5.30 - 7pm Barbican Library

Age Concern City of London

... have started their 'Only Connect', weekly IT drop-in sessions. These are held on Tuesdays between 5.30-7pm at the Barbican Library, and Wednesdays between 2-4pm at the Golden Lane Community Centre.

Anyone of any age (18+) is welcome to turn up with their phone or tablet etc to get some help – or if they don't have a device and are just curious or want to know how to get started.

Residents are invited to join Friends of City Gardens volunteers to help identify and record nature in and around the Barbican over the long weekend 27-29th April.

London is competing with over 160 cities worldwide, including six other UK cities, to find and record the most wildlife over the weekend.
