Bernard Morgan House - Planning Meeting

The Taylor Wimpey proposals for the Bernard Morgan House site go before the City planning committee on Tuesday 2nd May at 10:00.  Interestingly, the immediately preceding item on the agenda is a proposal to make the area around Bernard Morgan House into a conservation area.

Can both pass?

City officers are recommending that the Taylor Wimpey proposal be approved and have provided a hefty set of notes to committee members which includes notes from officers and the responses to the application (e.g. objections).  The Ben Jonson House objection is on page 293 of the PDF, but is lacking the images which were included with our objection, which is unfortunate.

The planning meeting is a public meeting, so do go along if you have the time.  You can read all Bernard Morgan House articles here on this blog here.

Film School - latest new home

The London Film School were going to move to the Barbican, taking over the parts of Exhibition Hall 1 which had not been occupied by Barbican cinemas 2 & 3, but the cost of fixing up the building proved to be too high.  I have received an Evening Standard newspaper clipping from last November which suggests that the film school will now be moving to London City Island in the Docklands:

When the Yellow Shed was the Tin Shed

I have been sent a photograph of Ben Jonson Highwalk dated 27th February 1982 which shows the newly installed corrugated iron + bits of wood and concrete predecessor of the current Yellow Shed:

Easter Sunday emergency gas work

The "nationalgrid" people told me that having located a gas leak by drilling boreholes over the last few days, it became essential to dig up the road on Easter Sunday morning at 09:30.

Here they are, dealing with the emergency:
